Thank you for your interest in hosting a food drive!
A great way to help fight hunger in our community is to host a canned food drive in your office, school, neighborhood or community organization. We help facilitate Canned Food Drives of all sizes, from door to door drives to school campus or corporation events, and we can provide the tools you need to achieve your goal.
How to make your drive successful:
- Promotional materials are very important especially in high traffic areas. Use posters, flyers, newsletters, bulletins boards, emails, or even press releases to promote the can drive.
- Build momentum with daily updates on your progress!
- Have a Mason Food Pantry representative give a presentation to your group.
- Make it a competition! Create teams or provide prizes for the winners if possible.
- Add fun categories: the most cereal or toilet paper, the most enthusiastic.
- Announce the dates of the drive well in advance and continue to remind people before and during the drive.
- Take lots of pictures of your group getting involved! Please send them to us at photos@masonfoodpantry.org so that we can post them on our website and share with our local newspaper.
Is your group is interested in conducting a Virtual Food Drive?
To explore how a virtual food drive might work for your group, contact Gina Brown at ginabrown@masonfoodpantry.org . In a virtual drive, participants simply make a financial contribution on a secure Virtual Food Drive page (in lieu of the traditional non-perishable food items). We can even brand the page with your group's logo! For every dollar donated, the Food Pantry is able to provide almost $10.00 worth of groceries back to the community. If you decide to conduct a virtual drive, we will walk you through the easy steps to coordinate your drive.
When to have a drive:
- Anytime! Make sure to limit the length of your drive because participants may lose interest if the drive goes on too long.
- Single day special event drives can be very popular if well publicized.
- Spring and summer are our lowest times for drives please consider these seasons for your drive.
What to collect:
- We are happy to provide you with a current list of items before your drive, just contact us!
- The following items are ALWAYS needed: beef stew, dried beans, chili with meat and beans, spaghetti sauce. Personal care items: soap, shampoo/conditioner, feminine hygiene products, disposable razors.
- Monetary donations for every $1 donated, we can secure about $10.00 worth of food and other products. Checks or money orders should be made out to Mason Food Panty. Please mention the name of your organization and denote the donations as gifts for your particular drive
